“the opportunity for GitHub Actions is defined by its lack of definition. Methodologists could set out workflows based on what they thought might be appropriate; but the bigger opportunity is to let the ecosystem decide what is going to be most useful”

We started using GitHub in 2009, not long after its launch, and one of the reasons for its early popularity was its initial focus on Open Source and its flexibility so it’s great to hear 10 years on and even since its sale to Microsoft that it is continuing down that path. Provide the platform and the ecosystem and the innovation will follow. Will be interesting to see how other organisations use the new Actions feature.

Like with his stovetop and microwave analogy, yes, the method to solving the problem of creating popcorn is very different, yet the desired outcome is the same. As robots and AI become more and more sophisticated it will become even harder to make that distinction. Maybe because of that developers intense familiarity with how these systems work some of the “magic” is gone for him. To the everyday observer AI seems a whole lot like…. I.
